Lee Sharpe, a former United winger, has praised Welbeck’s resurgence at Brighton and urged Amorim to consider the 33-year-old forward for a January move.

Welbeck, a United academy graduate, scored six goals and provided two assists in 12 Premier League matches this season.

Sharpe believes his experience and current form could offer the balance needed in United’s attack, complementing the raw but developing talent of Rasmus Hojlund.

Welbeck’s Career Resurgence

Welbeck began his career at Manchester United, making 142 appearances before moving to Arsenal in 2014. After his stint in London, he found a new rhythm at Brighton, where he has flourished under Roberto De Zerbi.

Sharpe highlighted Welbeck’s work ethic, maturity, and ability to deliver consistently in a competitive league. Despite his age, Welbeck’s current form has reignited discussions about his potential return to Old Trafford to help stabilize a struggling United side.

Amorim’s Tactical Challenges

Appointed on November 11, Amorim’s tenure started with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town. Known for his structured style, Amorim has emphasized the need for time to implement his philosophy fully.

With United’s current attacking struggles — just 13 goals in 12 league games — there is urgency to reinforce the squad. While Amorim reportedly eyes Viktor Gyokeres, doubts remain about whether the prolific Swedish striker, thriving in Portugal, is the right fit for the Premier League.

Sharpe’s Additional Suggestions

Sharpe also pointed out Marcus Rashford’s role under Amorim, suggesting Rashford is more effective on the wing than as a central striker. With Welbeck or another experienced forward leading the line, Rashford could maximize his potential cutting in from the left.

Additionally, Sharpe mentioned Ipswich’s Liam Delap as a promising talent, demonstrating Amorim’s options span both experience and youthful prospects.

This January window will be pivotal for Amorim as he looks to revitalize Manchester United’s attack and steer the club toward consistency and success.
