Known for his tactical acumen and charisma, the 39-year-old Portuguese manager has already begun shaping his vision for the club.

Having impressed during his stint at Sporting CP, where he established himself as one of Europe’s brightest coaching talents, Amorim was swiftly appointed following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

United’s players have reportedly embraced Amorim’s energy and self-belief, with some even dubbing him “Jose Mourinho 2.0” due to his confidence and meticulous approach.

Amorim’s personality has shone through during his early interactions with both the media and the squad. His first training session at Carrington was reportedly a hit, and his comments in interviews have exuded confidence.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, speaking on The Overlap US, expressed admiration for Amorim’s assured demeanor:

“He certainly has charisma and personality. He got asked what Manchester United fans can expect, and he didn’t hesitate. He said, ‘You’ll see a plan and an idea within the first two or three games.’ That kind of confidence is impressive.”

Carragher added that Amorim’s belief could be crucial in restoring morale at United, but he warned of potential challenges with implementing the manager’s preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Amorim is expected to employ his signature 3-4-3 system, focusing on tactical discipline and attacking intent. However, concerns have been raised about whether United’s current squad can adapt to this approach.

“This squad might not be suited to a 3-4-3,” Carragher explained. “They have plenty of centre-backs, but who are the wing-backs? It’s a system that needs the right personnel.”

The shift to a back-three setup could prove difficult, particularly given the lack of natural wing-backs in the squad. But Amorim has emphasized the need for time and patience as the team adapts to his vision.

In his first interview with the club’s in-house media, Amorim stressed the importance of instilling a clear identity at United—a quality the club has struggled to maintain since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.

“From day one, we will start with our identity,” Amorim said. “Of course, we’ll prepare for games, but the focus is on our game model—how to play, how to press, these small details. My first goal is identity.”

The Portuguese tactician also acknowledged the weight of leading a club with United’s history and expectations:

“Manchester United is the biggest club in England. That comes with great responsibility. I’m honored to be here, and I’ll do everything for the team.”

Amorim’s first test comes against Ipswich Town this weekend, and fans will be eager to see the early signs of his influence.

While challenges lie ahead—particularly with implementing the 3-4-3—his confidence, charisma, and tactical clarity offer hope for a brighter future at Old Trafford.

The question remains: will Ruben Amorim succeed in restoring Manchester United’s glory, or will the challenges of the Premier League prove too great?
