Shearer, speaking on Betfair, highlighted Mourinho’s recent remarks hinting at his openness to returning to England—a league where he has enjoyed great success.
Mourinho’s Premier League journey began with Chelsea in the mid-2000s, where he won two league titles and several domestic cups.
His return to Chelsea a decade later brought another league win, though later stints at Manchester United and Tottenham proved less fruitful. Currently managing Turkish side Fenerbahce, the 61-year-old has been in the spotlight again with hints of interest in resuming his career in England.
Shearer believes that Everton and his former club Newcastle United could be potential destinations for Mourinho. Shearer noted that Mourinho’s public statements, like his recent quip about the Turkish league’s lack of viewership, often carry subtle messages.
He speculated that this could be Mourinho’s way of setting the stage for a Premier League return.
Mourinho’s connection to England is well-established, particularly with Newcastle due to his close relationship with the late Sir Bobby Robson.
Shearer remarked that Mourinho has always admired the Newcastle fanbase and the stadium’s atmosphere, yet he acknowledged that Eddie Howe’s current success with the club could be a factor.
Whether Mourinho’s future lies with Everton, Newcastle, or another Premier League club remains uncertain. However, with his experience and “box-office” appeal, Shearer believes Mourinho’s return to England could happen within the next year.
