Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has emphasized the importance of a strong start for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. With the team placed in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, Yobo believes the opening matches will be critical.
“A good start is key,” Yobo told ESPN. “The first two games are crucial. We don’t want to be in a position where we are chasing Tunisia.”
The former defender highlighted Tunisia as the toughest opponent in the group, given their consistency in the tournament. He also warned against underestimating Uganda and Tanzania, citing recent AFCON upsets.
Nigeria will kick off their campaign against Tanzania in Fez on December 23.
