Former Besiktas midfielder Sinan Engin has criticized Galatasaray for relying too heavily on Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for their attacking output.
Engin’s remarks came following Galatasaray’s 2-2 draw against Eyüpspor in the Turkish Super Lig, where the team’s attacking strategy was called into question.
Since joining Galatasaray from Napoli this summer, Osimhen has been in remarkable form, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in just 12 appearances. Despite this impressive tally, Engin believes the team’s overreliance on the Super Eagles star is detrimental to their overall play.
Speaking on the Assist Analysis YouTube channel via habersarikirmizi, Engin pointed out that Galatasaray players often force the ball to Osimhen, even when teammate Dries Mertens is in a better position to score.
“Victor Osimhen and Dries Mertens are a slow and ponderous duo. What Galatasaray players need to do is simple—play down the sides and cross to Osimhen. But they can’t always rely on that,” Engin remarked.
The comments underscore a growing concern that Galatasaray’s attacking approach lacks versatility, making the team predictable for opponents to defend against.
