Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, recently appointed head coach of Besiktas, is making waves in the transfer market.
The former Manchester United manager is reportedly pushing to sign midfielder Casemiro from his former club before the January transfer window shuts.
Solskjaer, a six-time Premier League winner, joined Besiktas last week on an 18-month contract, marking his return to management after his dismissal from Manchester United in 2021.
His tenure began with a promising 4-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in a friendly match, signaling a strong start for the Turkish Super Lig side, currently sixth in the standings.
Casemiro, 32, has found himself on the fringes of Manchester United’s squad under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Since his £70m move from Real Madrid in 2022, where he won five Champions League titles, the Brazilian has struggled to make a significant impact at Old Trafford.
Amorim recently commented on the situation, emphasizing that tactical decisions have limited Casemiro’s playing time:
“I have to choose players whose characteristics align with my vision of the game.”
While Casemiro has attracted interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, a move to Besiktas under Solskjaer could offer a fresh opportunity.
Former England international Joe Cole also weighed in, suggesting that leaving Manchester United might benefit all parties:
“It makes sense for Casemiro. He’s a top player, but it seems like he’s not in Amorim’s plans.”
Interestingly, Solskjaer had initially hoped to sign Marcus Rashford, another Manchester United player, but the forward reportedly declined the opportunity to join the Turkish league.
As a club legend who played 366 games for Manchester United and managed the team for three years, Solskjaer remains a beloved figure at Old Trafford.
Besiktas expressed their excitement over his appointment, stating:
“We believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make significant contributions to our club and warmly welcome him to the Besiktas family.”
With the transfer deadline looming, Solskjaer’s efforts to secure Casemiro could define his early days at Besiktas, as he aims to strengthen his squad and climb the league table.
