The Liverpool legend has now overseen six consecutive league matches without a victory, leaving Al Ettifaq languishing in 11th place.
The frustration was palpable as supporters voiced their displeasure with loud boos directed at Gerrard when he stepped onto the pitch post-match. This latest loss has intensified scrutiny on the former England midfielder’s leadership.
In a pre-match press conference, Gerrard acknowledged the weight of expectations and the disappointment from fans stemming from poor performances.
However, he refuted speculation about a recent meeting with Hatim Al Misehal, Al-Ettifaq’s head of football, suggesting that it was not solely about his future.
He stated, “On the back of recent results in my position, you are always aware of disappointment from fans; I have to take that responsibility on my shoulders.”
Despite his commitment to improving results, Gerrard has drawn criticism for reportedly scheduling training sessions around Liverpool games, stating, “We put all our schedule around the Liverpool games.”
This remark did not sit well with Al Ettifaq fans, leading him to clarify his position. He emphasized that Al Ettifaq is his priority, asserting, “I am all in and I will continue to be all in.”
As Al Ettifaq struggles to find form, Gerrard’s commitment and ability to turn the tide will be crucial in regaining the trust of the fans.
