Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, expressing optimism while stressing the importance of respecting their opponents.
Drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, Nigeria will look to secure a fourth AFCON title in Morocco. Troost-Ekong acknowledged the quality of their rivals and emphasized the need for caution.
“AFCON 2025 draw is now over—very exciting to see the groups. Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania are three teams that need to be respected,” Troost-Ekong told the Super Eagles media team.
The experienced center-back highlighted the team’s readiness to handle tough situations, saying, “There are no easy games in Africa anymore.
That’s common knowledge now. However, I believe we have what it takes to come out of this group and go all the way. We learned so much last year from the AFCON in Abidjan.”
Troost-Ekong also expressed confidence in the team’s preparations under their new coach, adding, “This time, we will be more ready and work hard throughout the year to make sure everyone is fit and ready.
We’re looking forward to playing under the new coach. It’s an exciting year ahead, and I’m very happy with the AFCON draw.”
The Super Eagles will begin their campaign against Tanzania on December 23 at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Fès.
Four days later, they will face Tunisia before concluding their group-stage matches against Uganda on December 30 at the same venue.
Troost-Ekong’s optimism is shared by fans, as the Super Eagles aim to make a strong statement in Morocco and bring the trophy back to Nigeria.
