Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has emphasized the importance of staying focused on Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

With crucial fixtures against Rwanda and Zimbabwe approaching in March, Chelle insists that his team’s immediate priority is securing much-needed points.

Following the recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw in Rabat, Morocco, Nigeria found itself in Group C alongside Tanzania, Uganda, and another clash with Tanzania.

However, despite the excitement surrounding AFCON, Chelle is adamant that World Cup qualification must take precedence.

Nigeria’s journey in Group C of the qualifiers has been far from ideal, with the team yet to secure a win—recording three draws and one loss so far. Addressing the Super Eagles media, Chelle highlighted the need for a sharp focus on upcoming fixtures.

“We are a strong team, and now we need to focus on World Cup qualification,” he stated. “After that, in October, we can think about what comes next. But now, we need to be focused on one goal, and the goal is the next game against Rwanda.”

The Super Eagles will face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in matchday five and six of the qualifiers, and Chelle is determined to turn their campaign around.
