On Wednesday, he announced the passing of his mother via his X handle, describing this as the “worst year” of his life.
In his post, Nwabali wrote, “Rip mom, worst year of my life already,” expressing his sorrow without disclosing the cause of her death.
Hours earlier, he had cryptically posted, “A very very crazy world indeed,” hinting at the emotional turmoil he was enduring.
This tragedy comes just over a month after the passing of his father, who died shortly before Nigeria’s AFCON qualifying match against Rwanda in mid-November. Nwabali was excused from the game, which Nigeria lost 2-1.
Despite these personal challenges, Nwabali’s career has seen recent highs. His exceptional performances at the 2023 AFCON earned him a nomination for CAF Goalkeeper of the Year, though the award ultimately went to South Africa’s Ronwen Williams.
As Nwabali navigates these difficult times, fans and teammates have continued to rally around him, offering support during this profoundly challenging chapter of his life.
Rip to them champ may the Lord be with you in this hard time
