Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has thrown his full support behind newly appointed head coach Eric Chelle, expressing optimism about his impact on the team.
Chelle, named head coach by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) three weeks ago, has faced sharp criticism over his appointment.
Despite this, Sadiq remains confident in the federation’s decision and believes Chelle’s tactical approach can elevate the Super Eagles.
Speaking to Sporty TV, Sadiq praised Chelle’s impressive work during his time with Mali: “You could see what he did in the last AFCON. Many people considered Mali a favourite to win. They were so strong and played great football but were knocked out in the quarterfinals. Sometimes, it’s not the best team that wins.”
Sadiq continued, “I watched many of Mali’s matches because I have a teammate there. Their style of play under Chelle was exceptional. The coach clearly knows how to get the best out of his players.”
The Almeria forward is excited about the possibilities under Chelle’s leadership:
“If Eric Chelle brings Mali’s style of play to Nigeria, I believe the Super Eagles will make great progress and go a long way forward.”
