Despite controlling possession for much of the match, Ugbade felt the Nigerian team lacked the necessary combative edge.

Benin took an early lead in the 16th minute thanks to a glancing header from Mohammed Tijani. The Super Eagles responded late in the second half when Victor Osimhen scored a header to level the game. However, Ugbade believed that the team’s overall display fell short of expectations.
Speaking as a guest on AfroSports’ AFCON qualifier coverage on NTA, Ugbade remarked, “The Eagles were not too combative despite controlling possession. I think the players were a bit heavy, and I expected much more from them against Benin. The performance was a bit shaky regardless of the factors we considered.”
Ugbade also commented on the potential of Osimhen, noting his impressive goal-scoring ability. He believes Osimhen could eventually reach the legendary Rashidi Yekini’s goal-scoring feat if he maintains his form.
However, he highlighted the differences between the two players: “Yekini was always ready to take the risk from anywhere. He could shoot and score from any position. Osimhen, though determined, has a different style of play.”
Despite the draw, Ugbade’s assessment indicates a need for greater intensity from the Super Eagles in their upcoming fixtures.
