The Nigeria international headed home Alex Grimaldo’s cross in the 68th minute to secure the win. Speaking to the club’s official website, Tella expressed his confidence in his positioning, inspired by his teammates’ positioning throughout the season.
Leverkusen’s Composure Despite Bayern’s Red Card
Despite Bayern Munich playing the majority of the game with 10 men after goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s early red card, Tella noted that his side stayed calm and composed. He reflected on their performance, emphasizing the importance of not rushing the game.
“We had to stay mature and not get overly excited or rush to kill off the game,” Tella said. “They still created chances, but we stayed composed, and I’m glad I could help secure the win.”
Aiming to Defend the Title
Leverkusen, who won the DFB Pokal last season, are focused on defending their title. Tella highlighted the team’s motivation to continue building momentum as they aim for another successful campaign in the competition.
“We’re excited for the next round. We won this competition last year, and it’s ours to lose,” he said. “We’ll stay motivated, focus on the next game, and keep building on this momentum.”
