Erik ten Hag provided insight into the two key changes that helped Manchester United secure a 2-1 comeback victory against Brentford, easing pressure on the manager amid a five-game winless streak.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime due to Ethan Pinnock’s header, Ten Hag’s side came alive in the second half, with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund clinching a vital win. Ten Hag noted that the hosts displayed significant improvement after the break, attributing their turnaround to subtle tactical adjustments.

“We defend very well as a team; we have four clean sheets in the Premier League, showing our organization is solid,” the Dutchman said. He acknowledged that while his team created numerous chances, their finishing had previously been subpar. “Today, we did everything right, and we have players who can convert high-quality chances.”

The manager explained that in the second half, the team focused on filling gaps and increasing intensity in their counter-pressing efforts. “The first half wasn’t bad; we had good moments and chances but didn’t score. In the second half, we scored, and everyone is happy.”

Ten Hag particularly praised the quality of both goals. “The cross from Rashy [Marcus Rashford] was brilliant, and Garnacho’s finish was exceptional. For the second goal, the pass from [Christian] Eriksen, the flick from Bruno [Fernandes], and Rasmus’ finish were beautiful. We’re glad Rasmus is back; we missed his goals.”

Despite the much-needed victory, Ten Hag urged his players to remain grounded. “It’s great, but don’t overrate it. It is just a win. At United, you have to win every game. If you don’t win, everyone criticizes us. So enjoy it for 24 hours and then move on.”

Next, United will face Fenerbahce in the Europa League midweek before returning to Premier League action against West Ham.
