Speaking on CBS Sports, the former Arsenal star shared doubts over Mikel Arteta’s squad after their narrow 1-0 Champions League defeat to Inter Milan at San Siro.
Arsenal dominated possession and fired 20 attempts on goal, yet struggled to break through Inter’s disciplined defense, leading to back-to-back losses for the first time this season.
Arsenal currently sit fifth in the Premier League, trailing Liverpool by seven points. Henry believes that another away defeat could put Arsenal out of the title race, especially given their current away form.
Reflecting on Arsenal’s performance against Inter, Henry questioned the team’s bravery on the ball: “Inter were comfortable giving Arsenal possession; were Arsenal truly brave or just given the ball?”
Arteta’s men face a must-win challenge at Stamford Bridge, as Henry feels Arsenal’s performances away from home have been inconsistent. When asked if Arsenal could be considered title contenders, Henry replied, “Right now, they’re not.
Results like these aren’t enough to be at the top.” He pointed out that while Arsenal managed to avoid losses early in the season, their recent struggles reveal vulnerabilities that could hinder their pursuit of the title.
Henry emphasized that with Liverpool and Manchester City leading the pack, a loss to Chelsea could make it nearly impossible for Arsenal to regain ground. He remarked, “It’s not just one team we’re chasing; Liverpool and Man City are solid, and I don’t see both teams faltering.”
With a crucial match against Chelsea looming, Henry’s concerns underscore the pressure on Arsenal to deliver a decisive performance to keep their title ambitions alive.
