Despite the victory, Adams pointed out that certain moments during the game, particularly involving Jurrien Timber and William Saliba, may have involved some fortunate decisions.
Timber’s goal, in particular, was a result of a push on Rasmus Hojlund, which Adams felt could have been called as a foul. However, he praised Arsenal’s set-piece strategy, which caused major problems for United’s defense.
Adams praises Arsenal’s set-piece strategy and refereeing leniency
Arsenal’s dominance in aerial duels was evident, with the Gunners taking more shots from corners than in open play.
Dimitar Berbatov likened Arsenal’s aggressive set-piece approach to that of Stoke City’s, with Adams agreeing that their set pieces are now a potent weapon.
Adams pointed out that Saliba’s goal also involved some physicality, with the defender managing to block the goalkeeper’s path, and the referee allowing it.
He highlighted the increased leniency of referees when it comes to set-piece challenges, noting that Arsenal’s tactics have become increasingly effective at exploiting this.
