Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer to securing the signing of AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori, according to reports from Italy.
Following their failed pursuit of Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel, Spurs have swiftly shifted their focus to strengthening their defense.
Tel had initially been the subject of a €60 million (£50.2m) agreement between Tottenham and Bayern, with club chairman Daniel Levy even traveling to Munich to finalize the move.
However, the 18-year-old rejected the offer, preferring to keep his options open as clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Aston Villa monitor his situation.
Now, Tottenham have turned their attention to Tomori. According to Sky Sport Italy, the North London club has submitted a €30 million (£25m) bid, and negotiations with Milan are progressing well. The Italian side appears open to selling the defender, making a deal increasingly likely.
Tomori, now 27, first arrived at Milan in January 2021 on loan from Chelsea before making the move permanent that summer in a £25m deal.
He has since established himself as a key player, helping Milan secure the Serie A title in 2022 and earning a place in that season’s Serie A Team of the Year.
Despite speculation over his future, Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently played down the idea of a departure, stating: “Tomori is our player, he is happy at Milan, played well both under Fonseca, but also Conceicao really likes him. He is a Milan player.”
With talks advancing, Tottenham could soon finalize a move for the English defender as they look to bolster their squad before the transfer window closes.
