Jamie Redknapp has blasted Tottenham’s performance in their humiliating 4-0 Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool, calling it one of the weakest displays he has ever witnessed.
After securing a 1-0 first-leg advantage, Ange Postecoglou’s side crumbled at Anfield. Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Virgil van Dijk all found the net, sealing a 4-1 aggregate victory for the defending champions.
Liverpool now moves on to face Newcastle in the final at Wembley on March 16, while Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought continues.
For Liverpool, the win keeps their quadruple hopes alive under Arne Slot, as they remain contenders in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League. But for Tottenham, the crushing loss raises serious concerns over Postecoglou’s leadership and the team’s lack of fight.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp was scathing in his analysis:
“Liverpool were fantastic. They suffocated Spurs, never let them settle, and set a relentless tempo. The manager got everything right. And when you have Salah up front, his numbers speak for themselves.”
However, Redknapp was brutally critical of Tottenham’s response:
“I have never seen a team roll over like that in a semi-final. Not a single shot on target when trying to change the course of history? That’s unacceptable.”
He also expressed sympathy for Tottenham’s young players:
“I feel for them. Djed Spence seemed to play 14 different positions. Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall gave everything, but where were the experienced leaders? They didn’t set the tone at all.”
Former Spurs defender Michael Dawson echoed Redknapp’s concerns, calling the performance “damaging” to Postecoglou’s future.
“I expected a fight, but there was none. When you take a 1-0 lead into a second leg, you know it’ll be tough, but there was no character, no desire. Losing 4-0 without a single shot on target—it’s embarrassing.”
With Tottenham’s hopes of silverware dashed again, the pressure on Postecoglou is sure to intensify, especially after such a toothless showing on one of the biggest nights of their season.
