James Maddison has sparked debate after responding to criticism from a fan who questioned his decision to attend the World Darts Championship just hours after Tottenham’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Wolves.

The midfielder came on as a second-half substitute during the match in North London, where Jorgen Strand Larsen’s late equaliser extended Spurs’ winless streak to three games.

With injuries mounting and confidence dwindling, frustration among Tottenham fans was evident as boos rang out at full-time.

Later that evening, Maddison, alongside teammate Brennan Johnson, was seen at Alexandra Palace enjoying the darts—a sport the England international has long been passionate about, even incorporating it into his goal celebrations.

However, not all fans were happy to see the players out enjoying themselves after such a result.

One fan commented under a PDC Instagram post featuring Maddison: “U taking the p***? The form we’re in and U go to the darts?? Unacceptable.” Maddison, unamused by the remark, clapped back with: “Shut up u wally,” followed by a laughing emoji, making his stance clear.

Amidst the festive season fixture congestion, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou revealed plans to give the team a brief break to recover both mentally and physically. “

This is the first week without a midweek game,” Postecoglou said. “The whole group probably needs a couple of days to reset, spend time with family, and recharge.”

The squad will need the rest as Spurs prepare to host Newcastle in their first match of the New Year before facing Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

Injuries continue to plague the team, with key players such as Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Gugliemo Vicario, Ben Davies, and Richarlison already sidelined.

Adding to their woes, Destiny Udogie appeared to suffer a hamstring injury against Wolves and was forced off in the second half. “It looks like a hamstring,” Postecoglou confirmed. “We’ve been relying heavily on a core group of players due to limited rotation, and it’s starting to catch up with us.”

As Spurs battle their injury crisis, all eyes are on how they’ll recover in time for their critical upcoming fixtures.

  1. What is the matter with these flakey Spurs supporters. Does he want their players to go into mourning because they drew a game? These guys had finished their day’s work and were relaxing in their own time. Spurs supporters like this need to wake up and get real.

  2. I can’t stand this guy but imagine as a fan, thinking you’ve any right to complain when a player isn’t working that he goes to the darts. He’s right, the fan is a wally

  3. I love how these fans make out like players are meant to go home and cry themselves to sleep until the next game lol
