Tottenham Star Stands by Under-Fire Manager After Crushing Defeat and Rising Pressure

Cristian Romero has publicly backed Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou following the team’s disappointing 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

Spurs surged to a 2-0 lead early on in the game, but Chelsea fought back with a brace from Cole Palmer and goals from Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernandez to secure the win.

The defeat left Postecoglou under pressure, with Tottenham now sitting 11th in the Premier League, having won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions.

The result added to the growing pressure on Postecoglou, whose promise to deliver a trophy in his second season now seems further out of reach.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher suggested that Postecoglou’s managerial approach could put him at risk of the sack if his methods don’t change.

“Tottenham fans sing ‘We’ve got our Tottenham back,’ but playing this way won’t lead to trophies or challenges,” Carragher said. “If Postecoglou doesn’t adjust, he won’t be here next season.”

Despite the criticism, Romero was quick to show his support for Postecoglou, stating that the team’s underwhelming form could be attributed to the high number of injuries this season.

Romero, who left the match with a slight injury, spoke with Telemundo after the game, highlighting the issues that have plagued Spurs.

“He’s a great coach. We saw that in his first season,” Romero said. “In this second season, we’ve faced many injuries. We are the first to take the criticism, but people don’t talk about the impact of these injuries on our form.”

Romero also emphasized that both he and his teammates are still happy under Postecoglou’s leadership. “We love how they work and the football they’re trying to play,” he added.

In the face of mounting criticism, Postecoglou remained optimistic about his team’s efforts. “The players are giving everything they can,” he said.

“They probably need a rest, but we can’t give them one right now.” He acknowledged the team’s struggles but remained confident that their approach would eventually yield positive results.

“There is a real conviction in what we are doing,” Postecoglou said. “If we keep that belief, we will turn things around and hopefully hit smoother waters soon.”

Spurs’ next opportunity to regain form comes midweek when they face Rangers in the Europa League.
