Troy Deeney has highlighted Cole Palmer‘s frustrations at Chelsea, despite their recent 2-1 win over Newcastle United. Deeney, now a BBC pundit, points to Palmer’s annoyance at being substituted in prior games.

Palmer, recognized as Chelsea’s most crucial attacking player, wasn’t taken off in the Newcastle game, finishing the full match. The 22-year-old has only been subbed twice in Chelsea’s nine Premier League matches this season, notably in wins over Wolves and West Ham.

Deeney included Palmer in his Team of the Week, praising his performance and noting how Palmer’s pivotal assist for the assist in Chelsea’s opening goal demonstrated his skill and impact on the game.

He added, “When they take him off, Chelsea seems to lose control, and he’s probably frustrated with that.”

Chelsea excluded Palmer from their Conference League squad to manage his workload, enabling more playtime for other squad members under manager Enzo Maresca.

Palmer, who recently expressed his understanding of the decision to The Telegraph, said he’s focusing on staying fit for future matches.

The former Manchester City star has been in impressive form, with seven goals and five assists across nine league games.

In his debut Chelsea season, Palmer broke Eden Hazard’s record for most goals and assists in a single season and earned the Premier League Young Player of the Season award for 2023-24. He remains a key asset for Chelsea, under contract until 2033.
