Troy Deeney didn’t hold back in his criticism of Levi Colwill following Chelsea’s shocking 2-1 defeat to Fulham.

The young defender was singled out for his lack of effort during Fulham’s dramatic 95th-minute winner, with Deeney accusing him of showing “no desire to get back” after being caught out of position.
However, a late equalizer from Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz’s stoppage-time strike turned the game on its head. The loss is a significant blow to Chelsea’s Premier League title ambitions, especially with Arsenal now in a position to overtake them with a win against Ipswich on Friday.Speaking on BBC Final Score, Deeney highlighted Colwill’s role in the decisive goal.
He criticized the defender for allowing Fulham’s Sasa Lukic to slip past him and set up the winner. “It’s poor defending from Chelsea,” Deeney said. “Levi Colwill doesn’t even sprint and shows no urgency to get back.”The blame didn’t stop there.
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer also pointed a finger at current shot-stopper Robert Sanchez, slamming him for his role in the goal. “Sanchez tried to hit a long diagonal pass but completely mishit it,” Schwarzer noted.
“That mistake allowed Fulham to counter, catching Chelsea’s players out of position. The clearance was poor, and he has to take responsibility.”Despite these glaring defensive errors, Chelsea’s ownership reportedly believes the team doesn’t need reinforcements in goal or at the back to contend for the Premier League title.
This stance has drawn skepticism from various pundits, including Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, who questions whether Chelsea has the quality needed to sustain their rise up the table.Adding to the debate, Shaun Wright-Phillips recently argued that Chelsea has yet to adequately replace Thiago Silva.
“They let Thiago Silva go without bringing in someone of similar experience,” Wright-Phillips told sportscasting.com. “Scoring goals isn’t an issue for them, but defensively, they’re making too many mistakes. Fixing those could make them a different team altogether.”While Chelsea’s attack continues to shine, their defensive struggles could ultimately derail their title aspirations.
