Troy Deeney has delivered a scathing critique of two Premier League stars, labeling Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford the “biggest flop of 2024” and describing Gabriel Jesus’ performances for Arsenal this year as “stinky.”

Rashford endured a disappointing year under Erik ten Hag in what turned out to be the Dutchman’s final season as United manager.

Now, the 27-year-old forward has hinted at a desire to leave Old Trafford, claiming he is ready for “a new challenge.”

Former Watford captain Deeney didn’t hold back in his assessment of Rashford, criticizing the forward’s attitude and failure to take accountability for his poor form.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Deeney said, “Who’s been a flop for me… I don’t mean to pile on, but it’s probably Marcus.

“Flop is a hard word, but he’s been the biggest disappointment this year in terms of what we expect from him and what he’s delivered.

“Look at his attitude. He didn’t start against Arsenal, so he sulks. To prove he should be starting, he decides to just walk around the pitch. How does that logic work? That’s what a baby does—sulks and screams when they don’t get their way.

“At some point, he needs to take responsibility. He’s highly talented, has had every opportunity, but at some stage, it’s got to be his fault, not the manager’s.”

Deeney also turned his attention to Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus, who has struggled in front of goal in 2024, scoring just one Premier League goal this year.

Although the Brazilian striker has had a challenging season, partly due to a groin injury, he showed signs of revival with a hat-trick in Arsenal’s dramatic 3-2 Carabao Cup victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Despite this, Deeney wasn’t impressed, saying, “Gabi’s been stinky for a while now. He’s a good footballer who doesn’t like scoring goals.

“When you start telling people that scoring isn’t your strong point, it’s time to call it a day. I’m not sure why he thought that was clever.”

Both Rashford and Jesus face growing scrutiny as their performances continue to fall short of expectations. Whether they can bounce back and silence critics like Deeney remains to be seen.
