The 20-year-old winger came off the bench to curl in a spectacular effort but barely acknowledged his achievement, a move that drew attention from both fans and pundits alike.

Bruno Fernandes, United’s captain, later explained Garnacho’s behavior, stating:

“He thinks he’s lost faith from some fans. I told him people will always moan, but lots of people enjoy what he does. It was something special. He is a special player.”

The muted celebration comes in the wake of a viral incident where a United supporter criticized Garnacho’s gameplay outside Old Trafford. Confronted with comments about his passing and first touch, Garnacho coolly replied, “Why are you not playing, man?” before walking away.

Troy Deeney’s Critique

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney had previously defended Garnacho, calling the fan an “idiot.” However, following the Leicester game, Deeney was scathing:

“If he’s affected by one gentleman’s comments, I’d say: ‘I don’t think football is for you, big man.’ You play for the biggest club in the world. If you play poorly, people will criticize you. If you play brilliantly, people will still criticize you. That’s part of the game.”

Deeney continued, adding:

“Disappointed that he didn’t celebrate. It was an unbelievable goal. If he can’t handle minor criticism, this will be the making or breaking of him.”

Roy Keane Weighs In

United legend Roy Keane echoed Deeney’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of celebrating key moments:

“When you score a goal, that’s gone. If a young player can’t enjoy scoring a goal for Manchester United, he should do something else. Fans sacrifice to see these moments. Celebrate it.”

Garnacho’s Season So Far

While Manchester United’s season has been disappointing—they sit 13th in the Premier League table—Garnacho has been a standout. He leads the team in goals and matches Bruno Fernandes for combined goals and assists. Yet, critics argue his mental resilience will be pivotal in determining his future at the club.

As Garnacho represents Argentina during the international break, his next opportunity to shine will come next Sunday when United face Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim’s debut as head coach. Whether Garnacho responds to the criticism remains to be seen, but the spotlight will undoubtedly be on him.
