Manchester United’s squad has been surprised by the youthful energy of incoming manager Ruben Amorim, according to insights from former Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

At just 39, Amorim’s age and reputation have already intrigued United’s players, who have been eager to learn more about their new coach.

Amorim, set to take charge on November 11 after the interim tenure of Ruud van Nistelrooy, is known for his dynamic and disciplined coaching style.

Ugarte, who played under him at Sporting from 2021 to 2023, mentioned that many United players were surprised by Amorim’s age, as he has already achieved significant success, winning two league titles with Sporting.

Ugarte, now with Paris Saint-Germain, shared that the players were impressed by Amorim’s youthful drive and hunger for success.

“He’s very eager to win, and that’s crucial,” Ugarte told DAZN, adding that his teammates were optimistic about what Amorim could bring to the team.

While Ugarte is confident in Amorim’s abilities, he urged fans to allow some time for the new manager to settle in. The 23-year-old observed that while Amorim’s coaching approach will bring new energy, there will be an adjustment period as the team adopts his style.

Amorim has two remaining games with Sporting, including a Champions League clash against Manchester City, before he moves to Old Trafford. He acknowledged the significance of the upcoming match, noting that it will be his last in European competition with Sporting.

“My focus is on winning for Sporting. But conclusions can be misleading — a win doesn’t make me the next Alex Ferguson overnight,” he commented.
