Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed strong confidence in Manuel Ugarte’s potential, despite the midfielder’s challenging start at Old Trafford.

Ugarte, who joined United for £42 million from Paris Saint-Germain in August, has found it tough to secure a starting role, making only one Premier League start so far.
However, Van Nistelrooy believes the arrival of Ruben Amorim, who previously coached Ugarte at Sporting, could unlock the Uruguayan’s best form.
Ugarte played a full 90 minutes for only the third time since his transfer during United’s recent Carabao Cup win against Leicester, and Van Nistelrooy saw significant improvement.
“I’m convinced Manuel will be a great player for United,” he shared, emphasizing the midfielder’s skills in ball recovery and distribution.
Van Nistelrooy acknowledged that adapting to United’s system takes time but noted Ugarte’s determination and commitment to succeed.
With injuries to key midfielders, Ugarte’s presence will be crucial in the coming games, starting with United’s clash against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.
In discussing the squad’s future, Van Nistelrooy also highlighted Joshua Zirkzee’s development.
Though the Dutch forward has struggled to replicate his debut goal against Fulham, Van Nistelrooy sees potential in his hold-up play and believes he will be a valuable asset with time and experience.
Both Ugarte and Zirkzee are seen as part of a promising young core that could help United rise from their current struggles.
