The 23-year-old Nigerian forward has been sidelined with a thigh injury since picking it up during international duty last month. Initially, it was feared he would miss the rest of the year.
However, Alonso revealed during a press conference on Friday that Boniface’s return might come sooner than expected. “Certainly not against Augsburg.
We’ll see about next week’s match against Freiburg. There’s still hope,” the manager said.
Boniface has been a standout performer for Die Werkself this season, with eight goals and one assist in 11 matches across all competitions.
Fans will be eager to see him back as Leverkusen continues their campaign to retain their Bundesliga title.
