The love affair between Victor Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen appears to be nearing its end as the Bundesliga champions prepare to offload the Nigerian striker this summer. Despite playing a key role in their 2024 title-winning campaign, Boniface has seemingly fallen out of favor with manager Xabi Alonso.

In January, the Super Eagles forward was close to securing a €70m move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. However, the deal collapsed as the Saudi side opted to sign Jhon Duran instead. Since then, Boniface has seen limited game time, with his form dipping after scoring twice in the immediate aftermath of the failed transfer.

According to Sport Bild, Leverkusen has now set a price tag of around €50m for the striker. The club is willing to listen to offers as they reshape their squad ahead of the new season.

Several clubs are already monitoring his situation, with Chelsea and Newcastle United among the Premier League sides expressing interest. Both teams are in the market for attacking reinforcements and see Boniface as a potential addition.

Boniface’s time in Germany started on a high note, with his goals proving crucial in Leverkusen’s title charge. However, with Alonso’s tactical shift and squad restructuring, his role has been significantly reduced.

Despite his recent struggles, the Nigerian international remains a highly-rated forward, and his availability could spark a bidding war among European clubs this summer.

With the transfer window approaching, all signs point to Boniface departing Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season, marking the end of his short but impactful spell with the club.
