The match, played on Thursday in Abidjan, saw the Super Eagles claw their way back after falling behind early.
Benin took the lead when Mohamed Tijani struck, leaving Nigeria trailing and needing inspiration. That moment came in the form of Osimhen, who rose to the occasion with a brilliant header to bring the Eagles level.
This goal marked a significant milestone for Osimhen, who now boasts 23 goals for the Super Eagles. In doing so, he has matched the legendary Segun Odegbami, securing the second spot on Nigeria’s all-time scoring list. Osimhen’s next target? The late Rashidi Yekini, whose incredible tally of 37 goals still stands as the record for the senior men’s national team.
With this draw, the Super Eagles remain in the hunt for qualification and will shift their focus to the final group-stage match. They face Rwanda on matchday 6, scheduled for Monday in Uyo. Osimhen, undoubtedly, will aim to extend his scoring streak and inch closer to Yekini’s historic record.
The stage is set, and the Super Eagles will count on their star striker to lead the charge once again.
