The 26-year-old Sporting forward, now among Europe’s top talents, says he’s “enjoying” his current club, despite speculation fueled by his electrifying four-goal performance in Sporting’s 5-1 victory over Estrela.

This match, held at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, unfolded just hours after United officially announced Amorim’s appointment as their new manager.

Gyokeres, who has previously been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, showed impressive skill with a first-half hat-trick and a fourth goal late in the game. His recent goalscoring spree has intensified fans’ calls for United to bring him to Old Trafford, following in Amorim’s footsteps.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand has echoed these calls, urging the club to “break the bank” for Gyokeres, even if it could affect Rasmus Hojlund’s standing in the squad.

After his standout performance, Gyokeres kept his response to transfer questions measured. “Going with Amorim to Manchester United? I don’t know,” he remarked. “I’m here. As you can see, I enjoy it at Sporting. It’s nothing I really think about. I’m sad about him [Amorim] leaving.

We wish him all the best.” Reports suggest Gyokeres might leave Sporting for £50-58 million in the January window, but for now, his focus remains on his current team.

Speaking to reporters, Amorim shared that he had requested to delay his United role until season’s end, but the club insisted he begin immediately. “I spent three days asking to leave at the end of the season… I had to make a decision,” he explained, noting his life would be drastically altered by the move.

He acknowledged receiving other offers but emphasized his desire to join United, stating, “This is the club that I wanted.”

Amorim confirmed he’ll bring his coaching staff with him to United. “We’ve been together since Casa Pia. It was one of the conditions.”

He also shared that his departure from Sporting was planned early in the season, and while he hoped to stay until the end, Manchester United’s offer was too significant to postpone.
