The 28-year-old winger was forced off the pitch in the 59th minute at the London Stadium. West Ham later confirmed the seriousness of the injury in an official statement:
“West Ham United can confirm that Jarrod Bowen sustained a fractured left foot during Sunday’s fixture against Liverpool. The injury will keep our captain sidelined heading into the New Year.”
Bowen, the Hammers’ leading scorer this season with five goals and four assists in 19 appearances, took to Instagram to share an update with fans:
“Unfortunately, I suffered a fracture to my foot during the first half of Sunday’s game. I tried to push through, but it became impossible to continue. Injuries are part of football, and I’m already focused on my recovery. See you all soon!”
West Ham will return to Premier League action on January 4 against Manchester City, but they’ll have to do so without their star player, who has been pivotal to their campaign so far.
