According to recent reports, the Premier League side is keen to secure Lookman’s signature, but competition from top European clubs, notably Paris Saint-Germain, may make the acquisition challenging.
Football Insider reveals that there’s “huge interest” across Europe in the 27-year-old forward. This increased attention follows Lookman’s impressive performances since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022.
His versatility and skill on the wing place him in the same field positions as West Ham’s recent signings, Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme, adding a layer of complexity to the potential transfer.
Lookman’s reputation has soared thanks to standout achievements last season, where he netted 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 appearances, guiding Atalanta to both the Coppa Italia and Europa League finals.
His stellar play earned him a spot in the top 30 shortlist for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, where he finished 14th—the only African player to make the list.
One of Lookman’s most memorable moments was scoring a hat-trick to lead Atalanta to a historic 3-0 Europa League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen, marking the first time a player achieved such a feat in Europe’s secondary club competition.
His strong form continues this season, with five goals and five assists across ten matches.
Additionally, Lookman is a top contender for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, competing with the likes of Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong, AFCON 2023 winner Serhou Guirassy of Guinea, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams.
West Ham faces a formidable challenge to bring Lookman to London, with PSG considered favorites if the forward becomes available.
