Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has urged his former club to prioritize signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, calling the Slovenian international his “ideal signing” this January.
After a lackluster start to the Premier League season, United are languishing in 13th place and desperately seeking reinforcements to revitalize their campaign.
Manager Ruben Amorim has openly criticized his squad’s performance, describing them as possibly the “worst” in the club’s history after their 3-1 loss to Brighton. With injuries and inconsistencies plaguing the team, changes are on the horizon.
Left-back is a key concern due to Luke Shaw’s recurring injuries, prompting the club to pursue Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu as cover.
Additionally, Amorim is eager to bolster the attack to complement Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Several high-profile names have been linked, including Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
However, Yorke believes Sesko is the standout option. “Manchester United don’t need Bryan Mbeumo. He’s another winger,” Yorke told CoinCasino.com.
“They need a proper No.9. Sesko is a big striker with great presence, incredible shooting, and mobility—exactly what United lack upfront.”
The 21-year-old Sesko has impressed this season, netting eight goals and providing two assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances. Despite interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, Leipzig remains determined to retain their prized asset, who is under contract until 2029.
Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, recently confirmed that his client has no regrets about extending his stay at Leipzig last summer. Speaking to Slovenian TV, Basanovic highlighted Sesko’s versatility and development potential.
“He can play alone up front, with two strikers, or further back. He has height, speed, and technical ability,” Basanovic said.
While there were Premier League offers in the summer, the decision to stay in Germany was deliberate to allow Sesko to gain experience and grow. “He’s only 21. Leipzig values him immensely and wouldn’t be satisfied with any compensation in January,” Basanovic added.
With Manchester United in desperate need of a reliable striker, the question remains: Will they make a move for Sesko to rescue their season?
