Ruben Amorim believes Antony and Scott McTominay are thriving because they are playing with greater freedom and less pressure away from Manchester United.

Antony struggled to justify his £82 million price tag at Old Trafford, managing just one goal in the first half of the season.
However, after securing a six-month loan to Real Betis in January, the Brazilian has rediscovered his form, scoring twice in his first three appearances.
His stunning long-range goal against Gent in the Europa Conference League had United fans questioning whether the club itself was stifling his performance.

McTominay has enjoyed a similar resurgence since his £25 million move to Napoli last summer. The Scottish midfielder has become a key player under Antonio Conte, scoring six goals and providing two assists in Serie A, quickly winning over the Napoli faithful.
When asked why both players had flourished since leaving United, Amorim said, “It happens at big clubs. Without a strong team foundation, young and foreign players struggle to handle the pressure.
Right now, United lacks that stability, making it harder for them to perform.” He highlighted that players thrive in environments with a solid core and consistent success, which allows them to play more freely.
He continued, “When a team is winning, it’s easier for individuals to express themselves. At this level, handling pressure is part of the job, but some players perform better in a more relaxed setting.”
As Amorim prepares his team for a crucial Premier League match against Tottenham, he emphasized the importance of recent training sessions.
“We’ve had time to work and improve. Every match from now on is crucial, and winning is our main priority.”

Both Amorim and Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou have faced scrutiny for their teams’ struggles this season. However, Amorim believes he is under greater pressure.
“I sympathize with him,” he admitted. “He’s a great coach who wants to play the right way. But in this profession, pressure is inevitable when results don’t go your way.”
