Why Jack Grealish Must Leave Manchester City to Revive His Career

Jack Grealish, England’s star midfielder, is being urged to leave Manchester City to rekindle his love for football. The 28-year-old made headlines in 2021 as the most expensive British player in history with his £100m move to City.

Before that, he spent nearly a decade at his boyhood club, Aston Villa, where he became one of the Premier League’s most electrifying talents, making over 200 appearances.

While Grealish has achieved remarkable success at City—winning three Premier League titles and a Champions League—he has struggled to secure consistent game time this season.

The midfielder has only started six league games, with City’s form dipping to leave them seventh in the table, 14 points behind leaders Liverpool. Adding to his frustrations, Grealish has yet to score this season.

Aston Villa legend Lee Hendrie believes it’s time for Grealish to move on. Speaking to 10bet, Hendrie said, “Jack should seriously consider leaving Manchester City now.

No one can deny the success he’s had, winning every major title, but he seems to have lost the joy in playing. He’d be an asset to any top club. Personally, I’d love to see him back at Villa, though it might be a tricky deal to pull off.”

Hendrie acknowledged the financial hurdles of such a move but argued that Villa fans would welcome Grealish with open arms. “Jack wouldn’t be coming for a payday. He’d be coming to help Villa reach new heights. He’s Villa through and through, and seeing him lead the club to success would be incredible.”

The former midfielder also noted that Grealish has struggled to adapt to City’s structured playing style under Pep Guardiola.

“When Jack plays for England, he’s a different player—he has freedom and seems to enjoy himself more. At City, he plays as his manager demands, but we’ve only seen glimpses of the real Grealish.”

As City gear up to face Leicester City on Sunday after a disappointing result against Everton, questions remain over Grealish’s future.

While his talent is unquestionable, the question lingers: Is it time for Jack Grealish to move on in search of the joy and freedom that made him one of England’s most exciting players?
