Teddy Sheringham believes Sir Alex Ferguson would have wasted no time kicking Marcus Rashford out of Manchester United if he were still manager.

During his iconic 27-year tenure, Ferguson built a legacy as one of football’s greatest managers, winning 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies.

Known for his exceptional man-management skills, Ferguson was equally ruthless when it came to maintaining discipline, according to Sheringham.

Sheringham was critical of Rashford’s recent admission that he is “ready for a new challenge.” After two lackluster seasons and exclusion from the Manchester derby by new manager Ruben Amorim, Rashford publicly stated his intention to leave the club.

“When I leave, it will be with no hard feelings,” Rashford explained. “I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps in my career.”

Sheringham insists Rashford’s comments signal the end of his United career, adding that Ferguson would have already sent him packing.

Speaking to OLBG, Sheringham said, “I don’t understand how a Manchester boy, who knows the privilege of playing for United, could say something like that. Fergie wouldn’t have tolerated it.”

Rashford has reportedly attracted interest from clubs like Tottenham, West Ham, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan. Amorim’s handling of Rashford raised eyebrows during a dismal holiday season, where United suffered defeats to Newcastle, Wolves, and Bournemouth without scoring. However, the team rebounded with a 2-2 draw against Liverpool and a penalty shootout win over Arsenal in the FA Cup.

Sheringham praised Amorim’s recent efforts, noting improvement in the team’s cohesion. “He’s made his intentions clear in the last couple of games. That poor run may have been a necessary wake-up call for the club,” Sheringham said. “Now, it’s about building individual and collective performances.”

Looking ahead, Manchester United faces bottom-tier Southampton and a strong Brighton team in back-to-back home fixtures. Sheringham warned against complacency, saying, “On paper, these should be wins, but nothing is certain in the Premier League. Brighton, in particular, has been solid this season.”

As United navigates this critical period, the question remains whether Rashford’s departure is inevitable or if Amorim’s influence could spark a revival for the struggling forward.
