Jody Morris has named Moises Caicedo as Chelsea’s top performer this season, surpassing even Cole Palmer in his impact.
The Ecuadorian midfielder, signed for a British record fee of £115 million from Brighton last year, initially struggled to find his footing under Mauricio Pochettino.
However, since Enzo Maresca’s arrival, the 23-year-old has transformed into a vital cog in Chelsea’s system.
Morris, Chelsea’s former assistant coach, has gone so far as to rank Caicedo among the Premier League’s best central midfielders this season, placing him alongside Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch.
“If you’re picking a team of the season, they [Caicedo and Gravenberch] have outperformed everyone,” Morris said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.
“Caicedo has been better than Cole Palmer at Chelsea. Based on pure performance, I’ve not seen Caicedo have a bad game.”
“I believe we need an experienced, world-class center-half,” Morris said. “Our biggest issue isn’t in attack—it’s defensively where we need to improve.”
