Wolves Confident in Keeping Mattheus Cunha Amid Manchester United Interest

Mattheus Cunha has been a revelation for Wolves this season, showcasing his class as one of the Premier League’s most in-form strikers.

The Brazilian forward, who joined Wolves permanently in the summer of 2023 following an impressive loan spell, has been instrumental in the club’s resurgence.

Cunha’s recent brace against Fulham continued his remarkable run of form, taking his tally to five goals and three assists in his last six league outings.

His contributions have helped Wolves create a buffer from the relegation zone, but his performances have also caught the attention of bigger clubs, notably Manchester United.

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil has firmly dismissed speculation linking Cunha with a January move to Old Trafford.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wolves’ clash with Bournemouth, O’Neil expressed confidence that the Brazilian will remain a key part of his plans

“Matheus definitely won’t leave in January,” O’Neil asserted. “Our relationship and his understanding of what we’re trying to do here is exceptionally good, so I don’t foresee there being any problems at all in January with Matheus Cunha.”

O’Neil also emphasized that Cunha’s focus remains firmly on the team’s objectives, particularly maintaining momentum in the fight to distance themselves from the bottom three.

Cunha’s remarkable improvement has been a testament to his work ethic and humility. O’Neil highlighted the striker’s willingness to address gaps in his game and adapt to the team’s tactical demands.

“When I first came, he was big enough and open enough to accept the gaps that he had in his game,” O’Neil said. “Then he’s just gone head-on into trying to tackle them and piece the bits together.”

What makes Cunha indispensable, according to O’Neil, is his natural quality and understanding of the game.

While positioning, defensive mentality, and tactical adjustments can be taught, the Brazilian’s raw talent and footballing intelligence are rare attributes that elevate him to the top level.

“He’s an exceptional player, incredibly important to the group and the football club,” O’Neil added. “We love having him here and look forward to working with him for as long as possible.”

As Wolves navigate a critical period in their season, keeping Mattheus Cunha is crucial for their ambitions. O’Neil’s confidence in retaining the striker not only reassures fans but also signals the club’s intent to build around their star players.

For now, Wolves supporters can rest easy knowing that Cunha remains committed to the cause, with his sights set on delivering more stellar performances in the black and gold jersey.
