A young Tottenham Mascot stole the show before the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool by hilariously addressing Virgil van Dijk in the tunnel.
As the Liverpool captain approached for pre-match high fives, the cheeky mascot called out “Van Dijk, come to Tottenham! We haven’t got any good defenders at the moment,” leaving the Sky Sports studio in fits of laughter.
Mark Chapman, covering the match, joked about Tottenham having “the best value mascots in the Premier League.” He praised the young fan’s honesty, adding, “They always entertain when they’re at home.”
Spurs’ defensive issues have been glaring this season under Ange Postecoglou, with the team conceding 30 goals in the Premier League and struggling in 12th place.
The manager’s attacking style has faced criticism, especially after a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle last weekend. Postecoglou told the media, “If all things were equal and balanced, we would’ve won today,” refusing to elaborate further.
Postecoglou admitted last month that bolstering the defense is a January priority. “We let Davinson Sanchez go after the window closed, and we couldn’t secure another centre-back,” he explained.
“With Micky van de Ven injured and Eric Dier facing issues, we’re left short. We need the right person, not just another body.” Also Micky Van de Ven who is one of their best Defender was Sidelined with an Injury in the match against Manchester City In Carabao Cup
Tottenham’s defensive gaps have been evident, and while the mascot’s comment brought humor to the situation, the team’s woes on the pitch remain a pressing concern.
