Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now an advisor at AC Milan, has expressed interest in signing his former Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford. However, the Swedish legend acknowledges that the transfer would be challenging.
Rashford, who recently stated his desire for a “new challenge,” appears ready to leave Old Trafford. United’s head coach Ruben Amorim seems open to the idea, and the England forward has drawn attention from clubs worldwide, including Premier League teams.
Despite rejecting a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League, Rashford’s next destination remains uncertain.
Italy seems the most likely option, with Napoli and Como showing interest. However, AC Milan has emerged as the frontrunner, aided by the connection between Rashford and Ibrahimovic, who played together at United, winning the League Cup and Europa League in 2017. Rashford’s brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, has reportedly held talks with Milan.
Ibrahimovic confirmed Milan’s interest in an interview with Sky Italia. “I know Rashford well; we played together when he was young.
He has grown into an established player. Milan is a prestigious club, and everyone dreams of playing here. It’s a difficult deal, but we’ll see if we can make it happen,” said the former striker.
Milan, currently eighth in Serie A, has improved under new manager Sergio Conceicao. While the Portuguese coach avoided stirring speculation, he admitted Rashford is a “good player.”
With Rashford eligible for United’s FA Cup third-round clash against Arsenal on Sunday, it’s unclear if he has already played his final game for the club.
