The Africa Cup of Nations 2027 official dates have been confirmed. The tournament will run from June 19 to July 18, 2027, and will be jointly hosted by:
- Kenya
- Tanzania
- Uganda
This marks a historic moment as East Africa prepares to host one of the continent’s biggest sporting events.
Softfootball gathered, unlike AFCON 2025, which was played between December 2025 and January 2026, forcing many African players to leave their European clubs mid-season. AFCON 2027 will take place during the traditional European off-season.
Scheduling the tournament in June and July aligns it with the end of most domestic league campaigns in Europe, reducing club-versus-country tensions and ensuring players can participate without disrupting league competitions.
AFCON 2027 is expected to be the last tournament to feature 24 teams. As previously reported by Softfootball, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) plans to expand the competition to 28 teams from the 2031 edition onward.
The 2027 tournament, therefore, could represent the final chapter of the current format before a major structural expansion.
With new hosting grounds, a summer calendar, and future expansion plans, AFCON 2027 is shaping up to be a defining moment in African football history.
