PSG were originally scheduled to face Nantes in a Ligue 1 fixture on Sunday, March 15, shortly after their first-leg encounter with Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

However, the French league match has now been postponed, effectively allowing the PSG squad additional time to recover and prepare for the second leg.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will not enjoy the same scheduling flexibility. The London club are still set to play Newcastle United in a Premier League Matchday 30 fixture over the weekend before the return leg against PSG.

This means Chelsea will play:

  • PSG (Away) – Wednesday, March 11
  • Newcastle (League match) – Weekend fixture
  • PSG (Second leg) – Tuesday, March 17

The schedule leaves the English side with limited recovery time between important matches.

Some Chelsea supporters have expressed frustration, suggesting the situation could provide PSG with an unfair advantage, as the French champions will have a full week to rest and prepare for the decisive second leg.

However, Softfootball’s understands the decision may have been made due to logistical concerns. If PSG had played Nantes on Sunday and then faced Chelsea again on Tuesday, the team would have had minimal recovery time and travel preparation for the Champions League match.

For this reason, league organisers likely chose to postpone the fixture to avoid excessive scheduling pressure on the French side.

Despite the debate among supporters, Chelsea will now need to carefully manage their squad rotation as they balance domestic competition and European ambitions in what promises to be a decisive week for both clubs.
