Real Madrid have confirmed that forward Rodrygo has successfully undergone surgery after suffering serious knee injuries.
According to an update shared by journalist Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle, the Brazilian attacker was operated on for ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus in his right knee.
Real Madrid confirm Rodrygo has been successfully operated on for ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of the right leg. Recovery process starts these days with Rodrygo hopeful to be ready at the beginning of 2027.
The recovery process will begin immediately, with Rodrygo now aiming to return to action at the start of 2027.

Softfootball previously reported that the injury occurred on March 2 during Real Madrid’s 1–0 defeat to Getafe CF. The incident happened in the 66th minute when Rodrygo’s knee became trapped during a challenge, forcing him to leave the pitch shortly after returning from a month-long absence caused by tendinitis.
The 25-year-old is expected to be sidelined for between six and ten months, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the season and the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Before the injury setback, Rodrygo had spoken about his determination to regain his place and trust within the squad after falling down the attacking hierarchy earlier in the campaign.
The injury also creates further challenges for Real Madrid’s attack, especially with star forward Kylian Mbappé currently dealing with a knee sprain. The absence of both players leaves Madrid significantly weakened in the final stages of the season as they continue their pursuit of FC Barcelona in the La Liga title race.

Rodrygo’s injury could also have implications for the Brazil national football team ahead of the World Cup. With the forward ruled out, attention has turned toward Neymar, who has been included in Brazil’s preliminary squad list for upcoming friendly matches before the global tournament.
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti is expected to attend the next match of Neymar’s club Santos FC to assess the forward’s physical condition before announcing the final squad.
After spending a lengthy period recovering from injury, Neymar has recently returned to action with Santos and is working to regain full fitness. If selected in the final squad, the 33-year-old could play an important role for Brazil as they prepare for the World Cup later this year.
